About the Author

Welcome! Katarina Stenstedt (Kat) is a hospital chaplain and spiritual director. She lives in Oakland, California, with her husband Gene Anderson and their three spoiled kitties.

Katarina was born in Linköping, Sweden, and she came to California with her family as a baby. When she was seven her family moved to Belgium, and then three years later to Tehran, Iran. At the start of the Iranian revolution in 1978, a few months into 7th grade for Katarina, she and her family left Iran abruptly and returned to California. She spent the rest of 7th grade in culture shock at North Tahoe Intermediate, riding the bus to and from school along the shores of Lake Tahoe … a “third culture kid” who thought much and said little.

She’s been in California ever since. Katarina has a degree in mathematical and computational science from Stanford University and spent most of her career as a technical writer. She has a Diploma in the Art of Spiritual Direction from San Francisco Theological Seminary and is interested in spirituality, speculative fiction, creativity, and the ethics of medicine and technology.
